Seedbomb
Work category
A bomb which spreads seed in its release.
Detailed Description:
When the Seedbomb is released from an aeroplane, it separates in flight and seed capsules inside the bombe disperse widely and fall to the ground. Housed in biodegradable plastic, artificial soil provides the necessary conditions of moisture for the seeds until they grow to be strong enough plants to sustain themselves. As each plant matures the plastic naturally degrades, leaving a new generation of plants in a formerly arid area.
Known drawbacks of design:
The logistics of desert environment and the kind of seeds to be dispersed will require a lot of research and expertise from the botanists. Because once the capsule melts away and the artificial soil’s nourishment and moisture is used up, it will take a lot of effort on the plant’s part to survive the harsh environment. The main issue is if the plants which are seeded is be strong enough to survive and actual change desert environment.

Form
The Seedbomb is shaped just like a bomb as we know them. And it functions is just like a normal bomb does. When the Seedbomb is dropped, it disassembles mid-air. Within it are seed "warheads" that are then dispersed over a large area. Housed in biodegradable plastic, the artificial soil provides nourishment and moisture to the seed; till it grows out to be a strong enough plant to sustain itself. As the sapling matures, the plastic capsule melts away, leaving behind a brand new generation. The Seedbomb is in the colors of white and green.
Impact
By disassembling seeds in selected regions suffering from desertification and deforestation could help defeat the environmental changes.
Context
A plan to combat deforestation and desertification of land in a similar fashion as a bomb. The bombs are intended for combating both deforestation and desertification. Mission Seedbomb involves a bomber aircraft and charges full of the Seed Capsules. Essentially the project involves artificial dispersal of seeds over arid areas where natural vegetation has lapsed due to man-made follies like deforestation leading to desertification. Each capsule contains artificial soil and seeds, and is air-dropped over the selected regions.
Other relevant information
After The 2nd world war, Gale Halvorson, an American pilot, dropped candies in the name of hope for children in berlin. The Seedbomb is the bomb of hope like the candies of Gale Halvorson. When a Seedbomb is released from an airplane, Seedbomb is disassembled in the air and Seed capsules inside of the bomb spread out widely and fall on the ground.
